This morning, HSC hosted a standing room only crowd at 4C for Children for our member event Summing Up the State Budget, which featured distinguished guests Representative Bill Seitz and Senator Cecil Thomas. The discussion was moderated by Eric Kearney, former state senator and CEO of the African American Chamber. Policy topics included affordable housing, transportation, the opioid crisis, taxes, and reimbursement rates for direct service professionals in the human services field.
There was a great deal in the budget for those of us in the human services sector to be happy about. The budget included unprecedented increases in funding for mental health, children’s services and other human services supports such as housing, public transit and home visits for at-risk parents and their children. Rep. Seitz characterized human services in the state budget as being “as good as it gets,” while Senator Thomas expressed his opinion that we have to do more to support working families in Ohio. It was good to hear perspectives from both sides of the political aisle on a great variety of topics affecting the human services sector.
Thank you to our sponsor, the Good Government Group, led by the Honorable Steve Driehaus, for sponsoring this event.
