Members attend events that offer one-on-one access to local officials and key community leaders, such as forums, welcome receptions, and Coffee Chats. These events offer opportunities to network with leaders of other human-services organizations, building relationships, creating partnership, and achieving positive outcomes.
HSC offers its members opportunities to advocate with government leaders to influence public policy. Whether it’s appearing at a press conference, testifying at a public hearing, or participating in small discussion groups with officials, HSC provides multiple opportunities for members and their staff to gain experience in advocacy.
HSC offers its members opportunities to work with other agency leaders to tackle complex issues in the sector. The Public Policy Committee meets quarterly and is open to all members. This committee sets the policy agenda for HSC. Subcommittees work on specific policy issues, such as affordable housing and transportation, and meet monthly or as needed.
HSC offers its members opportunities to learn about a variety of public policies that impact the clients they serve. Members take away a deeper understanding of how transportation, housing, wages and other barriers create challenges for those they serve and discover new ways of responding to those needs.
HSC publishes a weekly member update that includes updates on issues relevant to the human services sector and opportunities to become engaged in HSC meetings and events. Action alerts provide opportunities for members to participate in advocacy.
