This week, HSC’s Transportation Empowerment Fund proposal was featured on WCPO. This proposal would provide free or discounted bus passes for lower income bus riders who use the bus to get to work, school, medical appointments and to meet other everyday commitments. HSC developed and advocated for the proposal after conducting a survey in which it found that many bus riders in the Cincinnati area struggle to afford bus fares. The survey of over 700 riders found that 76% of the bus riders are from households with incomes below $25K and 58% of them regularly use the bus to get to work or school. Notably, 30% of respondents with incomes under $25K said they could not afford a 25-cent increase. The Transportation Empowerment Fund proposal has received support from the SORTA board and the Cincinnati Business Chamber. HSC will continue to promote the Transportation Empowerment Fund as a lifeline to employment and self-sufficiency for many in our community. Click here to read the full the story.
