In 2017, HSC will focus on transportation, city funding, and county levies.
Transportation: HSC will work to identify solutions to transportation barriers that often inhibit residents from maintaining employment. This will include identifying a replacement for Everybody Rides Metro grant funding, which ran out in December 2016. ERM grant funding provided subsidized single fare rides on Metro to people who needed short-term assistance in beginning a new job. HSC will also be engaged in the long-term solution to investing in our public transit system, which according to the Metro Futures Task Force does not provide reasonable access to 75,000 jobs in our region.
City Funding: HSC will work to restore city funding for human services to an amount equal to 1.5% of the City’s General Fund and will promote allocation of this funding through a fair and transparent process.
County Levies: HSC will work on the county level to promote the Indigent Care, Senior Services and Mental Health levies that are up for renewal in 2017.
