With support from the Greater Cincinnati Foundation, HSC has launched its Empowering Citizens for Equitable Public Transit project. This project takes a neighborhood-based approach to improving public transit service for seniors, people of color, people with disabilities, and residents from low-income households.
We will work in neighborhoods in which many residents rely on public transit for their transportation to work, school, medical appointments and shopping. So far, we have launched the project in:
- Winton Hills
- Walnut Hills
- Mt. Airy
- the Mt. Healthy area
Our goal is to talk with residents about the top 3 priority improvements for their neighborhood. Improvements might include: more frequency or nighttime/weekend service on a route; adding a new route; or adding a bus shelter in the neighborhood. We will also identify any routes that could be reduced or eliminated if service cuts are made in the future. Once we learn the top priorities, the next step will be to ask Cincinnati Metro to make the desired improvements.
We are partnering with the Better Bus Coalition on this project. Look for us in one of our focus neighborhoods. You may find us at a bus stop or even on the bus doing personal interviews. You may see us leading a Community Conversation with your neighbors. Check out WCPO’s story about the project here.
